the other night over dinner, my brother was telling us about this place he visited. the people in this place, he said, are:

1. very superstitious

2. grow kangkong in their backyards

3. fond of ampalaya

4. enjoy rides in carabao-drawn carts

 

where was he? in some island off okinawa, japan.

this island was the only one not touched by the americans who have had a base in okinawa since WWII. they left this island alone because it was hard to access.

isn't it cool that in the process of being left alone the people there became, well, filipino.
