a quick (and starstruck) story
Posted at 04:19 PM

a few weeks ago, joanna and i were walking in greenbelt. we were pretty much right in front of music one, heading towards glorietta. to my left i saw this lady heading towards greenbelt. she was wearing rugged jeans and a loose-fitting long-sleeved black shirt. she had long hair. i gasped. i knew she was and was momentarily floored. then i got my wits back.

"dude!" i nudged joanna in a frantic whisper. "that was cynthia alexander!"
"oh my god, where?
"there!" i said, pointing behind us.

and we promptly turned around and followed her. she entered bollywood restaurant and we figured it would be too obvious if we actually we went in after her so we just stood outside catching a last glimpse.

dang. cynthia alexander. i swore after that i would keep a pentel pen in my bag so if i ever see her again i'm gonna ask her to sign my ipod.

another quick (but not starstruck) story
Posted at 09:57 PM

(one of those moments that i dare you to defy that truth is indeed stranger than fiction)

i was along cp garcia - just turned from katipunan and was heading towards UP. there was a huge and messy traffic jam on the opposite lane. the cars on two rows weren't moving.

some thoughtless motorcade, i thought. crazy people, don't even have the decency to move aside.

then i saw. it was a funeral procession. and the hearse had a flat tire.

relearning language
Posted at 08:10 PM

i must admit my vocabulary is expanding rather rapidly in the ad industry. of course at first i was lost with all the new words and different uses of words i already knew - actually i'm still a bit lost, but i'm getting the hang of some words, like:

1. adspend. a term meaning money spent on advertising. used in a sentence: so, what was the adspend for january this year? this is generally a noun although i have heard it used as a verb with a simiple past tense. example: what was the adspent 10 years ago? however, i have never heard it as a gerund (adspending) or as an infinitive (to adspend).

2. internals. meetings done within a team usually conducted before including the client. this seems to be a noun like "news" in that there is no singular form. it's usage is always "our first round of internals..." rather than "there was an internal..." because in that case it is now a modifier.

3. clienting. i'm not entirely sure what this means - in its different uses, it can be a) to solicit new clients; b) to make sure the current ones are happy. this is a verb that is strictly in a gerund form. one cannot say, "i am now going to client" or "yesterday, i cliented."

i'm sure there will be more soon enough. anybody willing to put together a dictionary?
