is it medium by fade or fade by medium?
Posted at 09:59 PM

this, too, was our anthem. more to lose by seona dancing.

We used to cry
About the day when one of us might fall
Weak and blindly into another's arms

Demands are gained from jealousies
Would flow like water drowning us
But leaving us with just another
Lover's false alarm

And now it's over
Both of us free
But I feel colder

A thousand tortured lives have fallen
Wounded dying cut down by the
Questions that we've sharpened
Just to save our losing days

We thought we'd nothing more to lose
We'd tear our hearts with jagged truths
And everything we'd hung to for so long
Just slipped away

And now it's over...

I was tired of thinking that
Our love can shine your thoughts
Of our arrangements
Were really not like mine

I thought it over
And it was plain to see the love you said
You once needed
Could just not come from me

And now it's over...

And now we're moving to new beginnings
But as we move we looked once behind
To see what we might find out
Lost loves and old thoughts of our nights of winnings
That lunge, tear and grasp
at lost wanting minds

as this will never see the light of day otherwise... online it is

First, let me get this straight: the War on Terror, we're at war with an emotion? On a certain level it makes sense. Everybody’s terrified of something, getting rid of terror can only be a good thing right?
My mother is terrified of snakes and can’t even look at a rubber band without squirming. Getting rid of that would greatly help her binding skills. I know somebody terrified of kittens and I’m sure she’s got a severely impaired sense of cuteness.
I'm terrified of dolls (had a dream when I was a kid that all my dolls came to life and attacked me, but that's beside the point) and if there's a concerted effort to eradicate that source of terror, I guess I’m willing to give it a shot. I’m thinking though that while it will make my life much easier, going to every toy store to wipe dolls off the face of the earth might be a little extreme.
    ...
I read a news article some months ago that a man with Middle Eastern features, including a mustache, was approached by police in London. Fearing the worst, he ran; they ran after him. Problem was, they were armed, he wasn't. So they shot him - six times in the head. Man, that's some serious terror there. I would never think of doing that to a doll.
I know that it was soon after the subway bombings and that people suspected men answering to the same physical description. But what were the odds that they had the right guy?
According to England's latest population statistics, around 6% of the total population of 54 million are of Middle Eastern or South Asian ethnicity. That's around 3.2 million people. If half of these were men, and removing a couple of hundred thousand to account for the too old or too young to stage public bombings, then that leaves around a million people. The chances that the cops had the right guy were one in a million. The odds of being considered possessed by Satan are one in seven thousand. One in a million is a really bad gamble.

how i will make my fortune
Posted at 02:55 PM

i needed to print something from joanna's computer, so i went to her house to get it. at the gate i was met by one of the household help and i said, "binilin ba ni joanna yung computer? kukunin ko sana."

she said that no, she didn't receive any instruction but that she would check with the others. after 5 minutes of conferring and confirming that indeed nobody knew what i was talking about, they let me into her room to get it.

and as i made my way out of the house with the laptop, i ran into her dad. "hello," i said, "kinuha ko lang po computer ni joanna."

"ok," he said.

later on we were laughing about it.

"grabe," joanna says. "eh di kahit ano pwede mong kunin."

next time it will be:

me: hello po, kinuha ko lang lahat ng pera ni joanna sa kwarto nya.

joanna's dad: ok.

1. Grab the nearest book
2. Open book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post text of sentence on your blog. Please include book and author along with these instructions.
5. No digging about for the "cool" or "intellectual" book in your closet! (I know you were thinking about it!) Just pick up whatever is closest.

My sentence is "Leave the remaining peas whole." Haha

From A Tuscan in the Kitchen by Pino Luongo. Yep, a cookbook. In case you're interested, the recipe was for risotto with green peas which is a very simple risotto with only chicken stock and parmesan cheese to jazz up the peas. Looks like it might be worth a try.

it begins with shoes
Posted at 01:21 PM

to begin on the road to being a sandwich maker, one has to be shod. and after 7 years in the university, shoes were something that had floated out of my sphere of need.

it is time to bring them back.

been looking around for the past couple of mall trips for a nice pair of shoes -- flats basically, my back will stab itself if i even attempt anything higher than 2.5 inches. so checked out the usual suspects: schu, pretty fit, celine, so! fab... nada. either the shoes were too high, or too dressy, or too high.

then wandering around glorietta yesterday, just as i had given up on finding anything, joanna on a whim decides to check out foot notes. there i found this nice pair of shoes that looked just right. casual dressy, half an inch heel... the clincher came when i tried em on and walked around. unbelievably comfortable.

turns out i got myself a real deal as those shoes were a pair of enzo angiolinis. joanna thought i was nuts when i asked for my size but then she saw the price tag: P1,382 down from P3,950. and when the sales lady found out i was paying in cash, she rang up P1,185 on the register.

so i got expensive shoes for a little over a thousand.

now there's an auspicious start.

turning on a dime
Posted at 07:34 AM

i've always said that life can take many sudden turns that can leave us reeling. i just kind of thought that things could get a bit more predictable when you hit your 30s. not true.

so here i am about to start from scratch. new job, new part of town, new lifestyle. but... new salary haha!

any time earlier i would have considered myself a sell out. but now i look around me and i realize that i'm not half the teacher i used to be. it's time to go...

and yes, it will be sandwiches for lunch haha! so the next thing i need is a lunch box. i'm kinda excited to get that

something's missing
Posted at 10:11 PM

so after 48 hours, the power is back. i was starting to get electricity withdrawal symptoms.

strange thing is, i can't type the letter between C and B on my keyboard. it's like brownout pa rin sa key na yan. now i'm aware how many words use that letter. my thesaurus skills are being exercised. it's the darnedest thing.

i'm just glad it isn't E or any of those letters that regularly turn up in wheel of fortune haha.
